The range

Climatic conditions:

The range is situated just north of the Tropic of Capricorn which technically places it in the African Savannah region. Although the hottest months are over, daily temperatures of 35 degrees Celsius and over may be expected. Night temperatures may drop to 20 degrees Celsius. The chance of rain is small and rain usually comes in the form of showers.

Clothing and accessories:

Clothing should be casual and lightweight. Jeans, shorts and a comfortable pair of walking shoes are recommended. A lightweight sweater and jacket are necessary during the morning and evening.

It is recommended to bring a pair of sunglasses, a swimming costume and a hat for your comfort. Special sunblock will be on sale on the range and you are advised not to purchase your local suntan lotion. Binoculars will increase your game viewing pleasure.

The ranch has a small swimming pool and several showers to help you to cool off after the day's shoot.

For the pre- or post-tournament hunter:

Lightweight khaki or similar clothing and comfortable soft-soled walking boots are recommended during the hunt. When packing for your trip, please keep in mind that all the lodges offer a laundry service.

Video cameras/electrical apparatus:

When bringing a video camera, hair dryer etc. please pack electricity convertors applicable to the country you are from and the country of origin of apparatus. Adaptor plugs for these kits may be requested from the lodge management. We have three prong round plugs of 220 volts.

Special events:

Special events will be arranged each day after the day's shoot is completed.

The "African night" will be a special event. African dances with African drums will perform. A typical South African barbeque and other dishes will be served.

Award ceremony:

A special award ceremony will be held on the day after the event. The ceremony will include the medal ward, a buffet dinner, music and dance for those who wish to continue celebrating.

Payment for the ceremony to be made when you register on the range.

Medical care:

Two of the hosting club members are local medical practitioners and will be available in case of an accident/illness.

We wish to remind you that this is Africa and that some diseases are endemic to the continent. The area in which we host the shoot is no exception.

Malaria:

Although malaria has been controlled in recent years, it is recommended that anti-malaria precautions be commenced prior to arrival. Please consult your personal physician.

Anti-malaria tablets (Nivaquine) will be issued to you with confirmation of registration. They are included in the registration fees.

Bilharzia

A disease you may get when you come into contact with surface water like rivers, dams, etc. Do not drink/swim in it.

Tick bite fever.

A disease also known in Europe and America. There is no preventative medication and treatment is usually symptomatic. Special sprays to repel ticks from clothing will be available on the range. Do not buy local insect repellent, it will not work.

Although the above diseases are endemic to the territory it does not mean that you will be infected. Most South African archers on the range do not use any preventative medication.

However, remember that symptoms of these diseases will only occur when you have already returned home. Inform you doctor that you have visited Africa.

Drinking water:

All drinking water is of good quality and can be used without fear. Although watering holes will be placed on each seventh target we do advise that you carry a water bottle.

Please note:
